A free voice reminder app for Android that doesn't disappear behind a paywall
Most apps that turn spoken words into reminders are built for the iPhone, or they cap how much you can use for free and ask for a monthly subscription after that. Here's the actual landscape, and where SayStash fits into it.

The short version
If you want to speak a reminder out loud and have it saved as an actual reminder — not just an audio file you have to listen to later — your realistic options today split into two groups:
- iPhone-only apps. Several well-reviewed voice-to-reminder apps, including Whisper Memos and Smart Pocket Memo, are built for iOS and don't currently have an Android release.
- Subscription cloud apps. Apps like Voicenotes cap the free tier (100 transcription minutes a week as of this writing) and charge $9/user/month for unlimited use, because your recording is uploaded and processed on their servers.
SayStash is built for the gap between those two: it runs on Android, works directly in a browser with no install at all, processes speech on your device instead of a cloud server, and doesn't have a paid tier — there's nothing to subscribe to.
How the options actually compare
| App | Platform | Free tier | Paid tier |
|---|---|---|---|
| SayStash | Android, Web | Everything, unlimited | None |
| Voicenotes | iOS, Android, Web | 100 min/week | $9/user/mo (Pro), $24/user/mo (Enterprise) |
| Whisper Memos | iOS only | Limited | Subscription |
| Smart Pocket Memo | iOS only | Limited | Not disclosed on listing |

The subscription apps in that table charge monthly because your voice recording has to travel to a server, get transcribed by a hosted model, and come back — that's an ongoing cost they pass on. SayStash's speech recognition runs on your own phone or browser, so there's no server round-trip and no recurring cost to cover. That's also why your recordings never leave your device.
What SayStash actually does
Say a note, a reminder, or an event out loud — in one normal sentence, not a rigid voice command. SayStash figures out which one it is and files it automatically:
- "Remind me to call the vet tomorrow at 2" becomes a reminder that notifies you tomorrow at 2:00 PM.
- "Team meeting Friday at 10" becomes a calendar event.
- "Gift idea, a telescope for Dad" becomes a note you can search later.
No account, no cloud sync, no ads. Your notes and reminders stay on your device.
Try it before you install anything
Because SayStash also runs as a web app, you can try the actual voice capture right now in your browser — the same app that's on Google Play, not a demo video.
